About Newburg, MD

Historic brick parish church and graveyard on a country road near Newburg, Maryland

Newburg is an unincorporated community in southern Charles County. Most addresses use ZIP code 20664, and the Newburg mailing area covers much of the countryside along Route 301 and Rock Point Road (Route 257).

The community grew up around farming and the river. Rock Point Road was built in the 1910s to link the Cobb Neck seafood landings with the rest of the county, and Christ Church, William and Mary Parish in nearby Wayside dates its parish to 1692. Today Newburg has a fire department, a few local stores, and two public schools that serve all of Cobb Neck.

Many residents commute north on Route 301 toward La Plata, Waldorf, and Washington, D.C., or south across the bridge to Dahlgren and King George County, Virginia.

Newburg Real Estate

Newburg offers a quiet, rural setting with a strong pull toward the water. Here is a general picture of what buyers usually find.

Country homes on Route 301 and Rock Point Road include ranchers, cape cods, and colonials on large lots, often with room for a garden or workshop.

Waterfront and water view homes sit along the Potomac, the Wicomico, and their creeks, with some offering private piers. Cobb Island and Swan Point add island and golf course living.

Farms and acreage are common, and most homes use a private well and septic system, so plan for inspections of both.

Waterfront buyers should check flood zones, flood insurance, shoreline condition, and any pier permits before writing an offer.

Newburg is unincorporated, so homes pay Charles County and state property taxes only.

Prices change with the season and supply, and they vary from one area to the next. Instead of relying on old averages, ask us for recent sales close to the homes you like.
